Easy Loader

This provides the Windows Explorer interface in an OmniPage window. The Loader can remain displayed as you work, letting you browse and choose files to be loaded into OmniPage from your whole computing environment at any time, without the constraints of a Load Files dialog box.

In Flexible and Quick Views it appears by default. Choose Easy Loader in the Window menu to add it to Classic View or to show or hide it in other views.

Easy Loader is driven from the Process menu. Choose Folder to view files as Lists, Thumbnails, Tiles, Details or Icons (arranged as desired), as you do in Explorer.

As an alternative to selecting files to send them straight to OmniPage you can choose Queue Window to get a dialog box with a lock. Turn the lock on to build up and re-order a list of files, maybe coming from different folders. The lock applies to all files collected to enter the currently open document. When the list is ready, turn the lock off to start loading. If the lock is off from the start, files are listed only if they are selected faster than OmniPage can load them.

A good way to use Easy Loader is to load a few files, send them to recognition and while that is underway, build up the rest of the input list.

Turning on the menu item Show/hide Queue Window automatically causes the window to appear whenever files are listed but not yet loaded and to be closed as soon as the list is empty.

How to compile files for multiple documents

Easy Loader can be used in Classic and Flexible Views to compile files for multiple documents, a described in the following example:

  1. Create or open three documents, with Document 1 active.

  2. Choose Lock All and then Queue Window from the Process menu.

  3. Compile files for input to Document 1. View contents in the Queue Window File List.

  4. Make Document 2 active. The Queue Window will be empty with the lock on.

  5. Compile files for input to Document 2. View contents in the File List.

  6. Make Document 3 active and compile its input files.

  7. Use Remove to remove any file chosen in error. Choose Clear from the Process menu to remove all files for the current document and Clear all to remove all pending files destined for all open document.

  8. To add files to Documents 1 or 2, make the target document active again and choose more files.

  9. When you are satisfied with the contents of all lists, return to the Process menu and choose Unlock All.

Easy Loader in Quick Convert View

Easy Loader is available as a panel in Quick Convert View. The Process menu has two commands unique to Quick View.

  • Get and Convert offers ‘one-button’ processing – files are loaded, passed through recognition and saved to files using existing settings. Only in this case, multiple file selection is allowed with Quick View; the result is one output document for each input file – before starting you should choose under Output file name Same as the source file name.

  • Load Files performs file loading without recognition, as in other views. In Quick View it allows only one file to be loaded at a time – it should be processed before selecting a new input file. In this case the Queue Window and its lock play no useful role

Easy Loader can process digital camera images. Set this in the Quick Convert Options panel before invoking Easy Reader. If Scan is set as input, this setting is temporarily ignored and pages are loaded as normal (non-camera) images.

How to use Get and Convert with multiple file input

  1. Switch to Quick Convert View in the Standard Toolbar or Window menu.

  2. Go to the Process menu, choose Easy Loader, select Get and Convert and Queue Window.

  3. Turn on the lock in the Queue Window dialog box and move it out of the working area.

  4. In the Quick Convert Options select Load Files as Document Source and check that all other settings are suitable.

  5. For output file name, choose Same as source file name, because there will be one output document for every input document – these are  differentiated by their extensions.

  6. Click All Options if you need to change any options not offered (such as recognition language).

  7. Click the Easy Loader tab and use Windows Explorer conventions to select files singly or in multiple, maybe from different folders.

  8. When file selection is finished, view the listing in the Queue window; changing file order makes no sense here. When ready, remove the lock.

  9. Recognition and file saving proceeds without interaction. The Page Image panel shows progress.

  10. As each file is saved it is displayed in its target application if View results was selected. If not, they can be accessed at the saving location you specified.

  11. To revert from Quick Convert View to Classic or Flexible View, use the Window menu.

  • In all other cases Quick Convert View accepts only one input file and delivers one output document.

Direct and workflow conversions

All Windows Explorer functionality is available in Easy Loader. For instance, you can also select files and use the shortcut menu item OmniPage 18 to send them via background processing to MS Excel, MS Word, PDF, RTF, Text and WordPerfect. Existing settings are used and by default generated files are placed in the input folder.

Use the Convert Now Wizard to access basic settings, such as whether or not to view results in the target application. This wizard lets you do immediate conversions or call the Workflow Assistant to access all settings, for instance to change target file names and locations. This shortcut menu item also offers all workflows that have image file input. See Direct converting using a shortcut menu.
