Input image files are recommended to have resolutions from 75 to 600 dpi, and 300 dpi (both horizontally and vertically) is recommended for optimum OCR accuracy. The minimum image size is 16 pixels on any side. The maximums are 28 inches (71 cm) and 8400 pixels. See Page image requirements for more information.)
You can append pages to multi-page image files, except JB2.
Black-and-white images enter the program at their original resolutions. Use the Process panel of the Options dialog box to choose whether to import grayscale and color images at their original resolutions or have those above 150 dpi reduced to 75 – 150 dpi. That means these are not good candidates for future OCR processing. You can control resolution for saving page images and for embedded pictures at saving time.
Hover the cursor over a thumbnail to see a popup window showing the image size and resolution.
-
Images are saved as displayed whenever possible. If you save a black-and-white image to JPEG, conversion to grayscale will be offered. If you try to save a grayscale or color image to TIFF G3 or G4, conversion to black-and-white will be offered.
-
Saving to PDF format is supported, with five options. Two of these, Image only and PDF Searchable Image, export original images. To save image-only PDFs, choose ‘Image’ in the saving dialog box. To save to other PDF types, choose ‘Text’. See also Saving to PDF.
OmniPage can save recognition results to these file types.

1 These saving file types are available only in OmniPage Professional .
-
2 When saving to HTML, all graphics are saved as separate image files using JPEG format. By default graphics are placed in a subfolder but the HTML converter lets you save the graphics in the same folder as the HTML file. This option must be used when sending HTML output in mail or saving to FTP and SharePoint.
-
3 Recognition results are sent to Clipboard in RTF 95/6.0, Unicode Text, Text and Text – Comma Separated. The target application decides which format is the most suitable for pasting. All versions of RTF can be displayed by all RTF-enabled programs, but older programs may not be able to handle features unique to newer RTF file versions. RTF 2000 ExactWord renders pages more exactly in Microsoft Word. During the save it runs Word in the background, paginates and examines the document and adjusts the file before the final save. It tries to avoid text running onto new pages with Flowing Page saving and also text running out of text boxes with True Page. RTF 2000 ExactWord is slower than other RTF saving. If Microsoft Word is not present, the normal RTF 2000 format is used automatically.
-
4 OmniPage Documents can be reopened by OmniPage. OmniPage 18 can open OPD files created by OmniPage 15, 16 and 17. Files from version 15 enter the program as unnamed documents. To keep an OPD in the old format and also save it as a new OPD, choose a different name to avoid overwriting the old file.
